Giving Back is Good Business

05/05/06

Natural disasters, disease, poverty, hunger, the homeless. These aren't your typical for-profit business concerns, except when it comes to companies like Pinnacle Financial Strategies that believe sharing their success to help others is just good business.

In fact, good community citizenship is one of Pinnacle's core values. Investing in the community - by sharing some of its revenue with worthy causes, matching employee contributions to favorite charities, and enabling employees to help organizations make the world a better place - is as much a part of who Pinnacle is as the services it sells and the clients it supports.

Pinnacle and its people step up, usually without fanfare behind the scenes, to help others in multiple ways. In 2005, the company and its non-profit foundation gave more than $100,000 to charitable causes, matching employee donations, supporting client charities, and contributing directly to organizations across the country.

Recipients of these funds included the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, USO, Harvest for the Hungry, YMCA, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Humane Society, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, National MS Society, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Zina Garrison All Court Tennis Academy, Tony's Prostate Cancer Research Foundation, and Texas A&M University Health Science Center Foundation.

In addition, Pinnacle encouraged employees to volunteer with paid time off through its in-kind giving program. And volunteer they did, spending more than 1,000 hours on charitable activities, such as hurricane relief, technology assistance, and non-profit fundraising event planning, communications and staffing. Many Pinnacle employees also volunteer countless hours of their own time to various worthy causes.

Recognizing these philanthropic and industry contributions, the Houston Business Journal again has selected Pinnacle as a semi-finalist for its Enterprise Champion Award and a Small Business 100 company for the fourth consecutive year. Enterprise Champion winners, which will be announced on May 19 are a step ahead in growth, industry leadership, employee benefits, company culture and service to the community.

At Pinnacle, being a good community citizen is an important part of who we are. We believe it's just good business.
